Architect Raphael Soriano’s 1939 Gogol House has been listed for $1.195 million.
The three bed/three bath home located in Loz Feliz is one of twelve remaining mid-century moderns designed by the L.A. architect from the 1930s through the 1950s. Soriano studied his craft under L.A. starchitects Neutra and Schindler and was a pioneer in the use of modular prefab steel and aluminum in his designs. Soriano participated in the Case Study Houses program and designed a house for famed architectural photographer Julius Shulman in 1950.
Soriano designed the Los Feliz home for surgeon Louis Gogol and wife and the mid-century modern is considered a prime example of Soriano’s earlier works.

Soriano’s design features glass walls, a much featured architectural detail in homes of the international style.

A 2,000 square foot roof deck blurs the line between indoor and outdoor living, another prominent feature of the genre.

The updated kitchen offers city views.

The living room utilizes a bank of windows to bring the outdoor views inside.

The open office plan and plentiful windows showcase the shifting light as the sun moves across the sky.

The reading room’s high windows create a contemplative atmosphere.
